Makkal Auto: India's first Computer based On-line Auto meter with android based tablet and Debit Credit card swiping to pay auto fare was launched in Chennai. 

Makkal auto or Chennai people’s auto has been launched in Chennai on 12th Feb 2014 by Manzoor Ali Khan, a social entrepreneur. 

The unique computerized auto is meant for women only, Makkal auto has an Android tablet, instead of mechanical auto meter, is enclosed in a tamper, water and theft resistant steel casing. The device acts same as auto meter(but online auto meter) which calculates fare with respect to the distance traveled, and this Android auto meter is also equipped with 3G data communication, GPS tracking, Centralized call center facility and a panic button is also included to use in case of emergency. In addition to the all, Chennai Auto passengers can pay auto fare with their debit & Credit cards if the amount exceeds Rs.50.
